Mary, William, Nathan, and Breannca Bussert Located in Faribault, MN
Thank you for your interest in our farm! We are the Bussert family, consisting of William, Mary, Nathan, and Breannca. Our farm is located in Faribault, MN, where we raise goats, rabbits, chickens, and guineas.
Our family started farming goats in 1991 when we bought our first two goats off of a garage sale. At the time, we had no background in goats, but had just sold off our last milking dairy cows and were looking to start something new for a 4-H project. After buying Daisy and Star and showing them that first year, we learned about the American Dairy Goat Association and became members of it. Our herd name, DaiStaR, is a combination of the names of our first two goats.
Currently, we maintain a herd size of 100 goats, with a combination of registered dairy goats and meat goats. We own Toggenburgs, LaManchas, and Grades on the dairy side, as well as boers and boer-crosses on the meat side. We enjoy exhibiting our dairy goats at local open class shows and the Minnesota State Fair Open Class show when we can! We sell all of our wethers each year for meat either live off the farm or at the sales barn. Our breeding program focuses on breeding well-balanced does with well-attached mammary systems and long, heavy producing lactation periods. We also select for friendly going dispositions.
Each year, we raise about 300 chickens and about 400 guineas out, and have them available for sale live off of the farm as well. The chickens are all of dual purpose breeds (Delaware, Rhode Island and Bared Rock) as we also sell farm-fresh eggs. The guineas are all selected for their high meat quality and size. Our farm also raises New Zealand and Satin rabbits, and sells them for both meat and as breeding animals.
